“My Pride and Joy, Zenitsu” Tee
The Inspiration Behind Our Zenitsu Design
If you're new here, NO1 APPARELS is an anime apparel shop that focuses on subtle, minimal and wearable designs. We make anime clothing that feels like streetwear first, with meanings that only other fans will notice.
This design was inspired by one of the most meaningful moments in Demon Slayer, and it had nothing to do with flashy visuals or nonstop action. It was one of the scenes we genuinely enjoyed while watching Infinity Castle, and it stayed with us long after.
When Zenitsu ended the fight by defeating Kaigaku with Thunder Breathing, Seventh Form, a self created technique, it marked how far he had come, not just as a swordsman, but as a person. It was a huge turning point for his character, especially knowing that this was something he taught himself, built through persistence rather than natural talent.
When we think about anime inspired clothing, it is usually the loud moments that get adapted into shirts. For this piece, we wanted to do the opposite and focus on the emotional resolution instead of the spectacle. That is also why this design sits closer to subtle anime clothing rather than typical anime merch.
A Quiet, Heartwarming Scene That Changed Everything
Instead of continuing with more action, the story slowed down. Zenitsu found himself waking up in a flower field, talking to his grandfather one last time. It was a simple, heartwarming scene where he was finally able to find closure after his grandfather’s death, and to hear that he was his grandfather’s pride and joy.
That moment felt incredibly human. No chaos, no enemies, just closure. It was the emotional payoff to Zenitsu’s entire journey, and it became the foundation for this design.
While Zenitsu was able to get proper closure in that moment, we know that most of the time, life does not work that way. There are many things left unsaid, and many moments we do not get a second chance at. That was one of the reasons this scene felt so powerful to us.
In a way, it serves as a reminder that time waits for no one. The people who care about us are often waiting quietly for us to become the best version of ourselves, even if they may never get the chance to say it out loud. This design is also our way of carrying that lesson forward, through something simple, wearable, and meaningful.
This is exactly the kind of moment we want to translate into subtle anime clothing. Not everything needs to scream references. Sometimes the meaning becomes more powerful when it is understated.
Translating the Scene Into Subtle Anime Merch
The main visual on the back of the tee recreates the flower field where Zenitsu woke up and had his final conversation with his grandfather. The overall composition is calm and restrained, designed to feel like a recreation of the scene, something you see once and immediately remember the emotion behind it.
Within the field, we included red spider lilies, also known as blood lilies. These flowers are often associated with death, loss, and final goodbyes in Japanese symbolism. Their presence represents his grandfather’s passing and the emotional weight of that moment.
This approach is intentional. We want our subtle anime shirts to feel thoughtful rather than loud, allowing fans to connect with the story without feeling like they are wearing obvious anime merch.
“My Pride and Joy” and the Use of Lightning
At the bottom left of the design, you will find the words my pride and joy, surrounded by lightning.
This was the completion of Zenitsu's arc and it was so bittersweet. He finally feels worthy of his Grandfather's love but he's no longer around.
The lightning here is controlled and deliberate. It represents growth, ownership, and Zenitsu finally becoming someone his grandfather believed he could be. That layered emotional depth is what we aim to capture in every piece of subtle anime clothing we create.
On the front of the tee, you will also see our logo wrapped in lightning, which ties the entire concept together in a subtle way.
